checking in
It's been a challenging but exciting few months for me as a new biz owner. I feel like everyday there is some obstacle I need to figure out how to get through. Filing my taxes, researching how to raise capital, communicating with manufacturing and sourcing teams, teaching myself graphic design, forgetting to post on Instagram... you name it! It feels like a million roles in one as a founder. I can't thank you enough for all the support and feedback through these first baby steps for Après Sweat. This post was inspired by some mindfulness practices I have been using to help cope with the added stress of the past year. I hope you can use them as tools in your stress management toolbox as well. If you find value in any of this, please feel free to tag us and share! I would love to hear the mindfulness techniques you are practicing or what you're checking off for your summer of self care. Thanks to my family and friends for keeping me so grounded, for reaching out, holding me accountable for my own happiness, and for bringing me so much joy. I love you guys!

My Inspiration comes from an article my Dad sent me from Rick Hanson, PhD. Psychologist, and New York TImes Best Selling Author. Are You Thinking too Much? Rest Your Weary Head
We have been preoccupied with so many thoughts, concerns, and worries, that make it difficult to be present and find peace. I have been especially stressed with finances, unemployment, getting my car serviced, spring cleaning, working out, eating healthy, running a start up... the list is endless. But it got me thinking... this list is only going to grow in complexity in the next few years. To imagine all this in the mix plus a relationship, pets, kids, employees.. my anxiety! I realize the "hustle mindset" was wearing down on my body and my mood. Constantly planning, analyzing, and worrying.. I was left feeling fatigued, uninspired, and like my tank was running on empty. We are being bombarded by phone alerts, emails, breaking news, to do lists, and overstimulating visuals all day long. So what can we practice? Taking a moment to breathe & become present again. If at any point you feel overwhelmed with your thoughts this week, I want you to practice asking yourself questions like "What am I thinking about?" "Am I safe and supported in this moment?" "Is this productive?" "Is this in my control?" "Do I want to keep thinking about this?" "Will this matter in 1 year?" "What is the first small step I can take?" Next time you are feeling overwhelmed, take a few deep breaths away from the mental busyness & give your mind a little break.
